In his Australian debut, jazz-pop multi-instrumentalist aron! performed his first headline show at Melbourne’s Toff in Town to an adoring audience on Friday June 12th.
Kickstarting with ‘no cigar’ before performing the gorgeous ‘Wonderful Thing’, the 21-year-old American musician was in disbelief with the number of Melbourne audience members that knew the lyrics to his songs word for word, sharing, “You guys sound so beautiful. Thank-you for singing along.”
Accompanied with a three-piece band consisting of Kade on keys, Liam on bass and Joe on the drums, the intimate Melbourne gig gave a cozy vibe. Romantic and sweet, ‘i think about you lots’ and ‘eggs in the morning’ were soft and affectionate ballads. Despite appearing a little awkward and shy at first, aron! was a natural on stage, and effortlessly charming when showering his Melbourne fans with compliments.
On the electric guitar, aron! performed his new song ‘shiny stockings’, however he shone the most when he was performing on the acoustic guitar solo the song ‘only you’, the popular ‘Macramé’, ‘clementine’, and on the piano ‘fools rush in’. During the acoustic part of the Melbourne concert, there came a point where the Melbourne audience all sat on the wooden floor, and the gig felt super intimate and cozy, creating such a unique welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
With aron! fresh on the music scene, the concert felt like it went really quickly. aron!, still a newcomer with a small but fascinating musical catalogue, provided a wonderful little concert for his Melbourne audience. In his first visit to our shores, I would consider this show a successful concert. aron! is extremely likable and even took the time to have a merch signing afterwards, signing shirts and CDs. I don’t even remember the last time an artist did this after a show, nor the last time I even held physical media. It felt like a special moment lost in time.
With exquisite songwriting, a lovely aura, a likable personality and comforting stage presence, aron! was a delightful discovery. The American singer has everything going for him, and I look forward to his growth over the next few years as a music artist, plus his eventual return to our city.
aron!‘s Live In Australia tour had its Melbourne concert at the Toff in Town on Friday June 12. He will have his final Australian show in Sydney on Tuesday June 16 at The Vanguard.
