BIBI is not your average South Korean singer-rapper. Breaking boundaries and defying the norm of Korean pop culture, Kim Hyeong-seo, better known as BIBI, captivated hearts and brought plenty laughter from her refreshing personality.
In a first ever visit, BIBI brought her 2025 BIBI 1st WORLD TOUR [EVE] IN AUSTRALIA to Melbourne. During her viral track ‘Bam Yang Gang’, BIBI asked her fans collectively known as ‘Pookïes’ if they were familiar with the traditional Korean snack. Made of red bean paste, this sweet jelly snack serves as a metaphor for simple love, and like the song itself, it carried a warm uplifting feeling. Which led to a fan who then handed BIBI the treat. BIBI then happily ate some before sharing the rest of the snack with several fans near the stage.
The [EVE] tour reflects not only the release of her second full-length album EVE: ROMANCE but also her dual personas: EVE and EVE-1. Theatrically bold and deeply personal, BIBI’s storytelling may not be for everyone, but it’s smart, dynamic and she makes that clear through her constant reminders, she loves humans and that everyone deserves love.
BIBI’s use of VCRs (pre-recorded clips) created a dialogue that is bold, dark and deeply captivating. With how majority of BIBI’s MV’s are filmed, produced, and executed, it shouldn’t be shocking of the themes that [EVE] showcased of self-worth and love in a way that felt raw, real, relatable and very relevant to today’s society. Watching her VCRs paired with the tracks ‘Winter’ and ‘Bluebird’ sparked a spiral of thoughts. BIBI created a dialogue that not only complemented her tour theme, but it also challenges the audience to think deeper. If interpretation was left to the listener, BIBI’s message was clear that our individuality is something to embrace and love.
Her three-part VCR moment as EVE-1 ended by introducing us to her hit ‘BIBI Vengeance’, then ‘BAD SAD AND MAD’ and ‘City Love’. During ‘City Love’, BIBI moved through the sea of seated Pookïes and eventually pulling super lucky fan Peter onto the stage. With her humor in full throttle, she jokingly emphasised that she’s simply an artist and any misunderstandings are on her fans for not teaching her. This then later led to Peter receiving a special performance of ‘Best Lover’ and honestly, he was the perfect choice. A true Pookïe that knew all the lyrics, had the humour to match and evidently appeared to be having the time of his life.
During an MC moment, BIBI thanked her CEOs (Tiger JK and Yoon Mi-rae) for her ability to communicate freely in English with her Australian fans. By crossing that language barrier, she didn’t need a translator, and because of this her conversations came across in her truest and most authentic form.
Throughout the Melbourne concert, BIBI displayed her excellent songwriting, vocals and her versatile musicality. Her music switched between different genres and yet, it still all felt and sounded cohesive with her signature style, charming personality and composition talents. She’s also incredibly funny, a great dancer, and displayed her finesse during the more upbeat songs.
During Melbourne concert, BIBI keenly shared that she’s fascinated by the careers of her fans. After learning that one fan in New Zealand was a stripper, she was interested to know if her Melbourne fans had any interesting professions. This quickly turned into a thoroughly entertaining Q&A, with fans sharing any unique professions that they had or an interesting fact about themselves. Genuinely curious, BIBI made it her mission to speak with as many fans as possible, moving through the rows and turning the moment into a highly interactive experience till she was called back to stage.
Ending the night on a high note, BIBI closed with her 88rising track ‘The Weekend’ followed by ‘KAZINO’ and her debut single ‘BINU’. Full of love and energy, BIBI reminded us constantly to be happy and to feel loved. Before being playfully dragged off stage by her manager, BIBI signed off with her signature humor, telling fans to eat well, take their vitamins, sleep well, be happy and go to hospital. Beneath the laughter, her message was sincere. If you need help, seek help because support is always there, and so is BIBI’s music.
