Eminem: Houdini – Single Review

Guess who’s back? The incomparable Eminem has returned with new single ‘Houdini’ and his return couldn’t have been better timed.

‘Houdini’ is the lead single of Eminem’s upcoming twelfth studio album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’ set to be released this year. The lead track is reminiscent of the artist’s 2002 hit ‘Without Me’ and purposely so. The music video displays Eminem back in his Slim Shady persona, his Rapboy superhero outfit and the return of American rapper and producer Dr. Dre by his side, once again behind the wheel of the yellow Rapmobile. If you actually watch the Eminem music videos ‘Without Me’ and ‘Houdini’ back to back, you’ll see too that this epic single appears to be 22 years in the making!

Music wise, the song is slick, catchy and is as impressive as I would expect from this rap titan. The song interpolates both previous work from Eminem, as well as the recognisable Steve Miller Band tune ‘Abracadabra’ in a way that compliments the original while providing a refreshing hook to this latest Eminem song. Eminem also showcases his quick rap skills filled with humour and pop culture references which are as hilarious as they are great, and are just as good as his previous work that the rap artist ruled with in the 2000’s.

While there is no set date on when Eminem’s upcoming album ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’ will be released this year, ‘Houdini’ is a thoroughly good release that will keep fans satisfied and entertained up until then. I for one am looking forward to the upcoming album offering from this reigning comeback king.
