There’s something so special about comedians that provide humour through simple life-experience storytelling.
No silly punchlines, no self-depreciating humour, no gimmicks, just interesting tales that feel personal and familiar. It seems very natural, like catching up with a friend that you haven’t seen in ages, with juicy stories that would be great as conversations over drinks or a meal. That’s how approachable and captivating Fadzri Rashid (the artist formally known as Fakkah Fuzz) is with his show Lost Singaporean.
Upon entering the sold-out Melbourne Town Hall – Paul’s Place room, there was a sense of calm and warmth. With every seat filled, what Fadzri created for himself, and his patrons was a safe space for everyone to wholeheartedly embrace laughter in unison. It seriously felt like a lovely little community, even though our time together was brief.
Fadzri Rashid showcased his beaming smile, cheeky sense of humour, fun stories and vibrant personality with ease. Owning the stage, Fadzri’s confidence and authenticity spoke volumes with every moment that we shared the room with him.
Stories from Fadzri consisted of his ethnicity and struggles, cultural identity and our differences, friendship, familial love, public transport, and living in and leaving Singapore. With every tale that Fadzri told, the audience (including myself) was attentive and hanging onto his every word.
One of my favourite stories from Lost Singaporean was of Fadzri’s relationship with his father. Being one of his father’s carers, Fadzri spoke affectionately with equal measure of humour, concern and unconditional love. As someone who has had a parent pass away, with their last years spent being cared for in palliative care, it’s something I deeply understood and could sincerely relate to. With Asian culture as well, it’s normal for us to take care for our parents when they get older, and this single story made everyone in the Melbourne Town Hall Paul’s Place room feel more connected with Fadzri, and extremely emotional. It made me want to go home and hug my remaining living parent.
This wasn’t my first time seeing Fadzri perform live. I had previously seen the smiley Singaporean in an Asian comedy showcase way back in 2023 and distinctively remember him being one of the two best comedians of the otherwise forgettable line-up, and wanting to see more of his work. Two years later, I’ve finally seen Fadzri Rashid in a solo show and can attest that he is as impressive as I remember, if not better.
Fadzri Rashid’s brilliant, intelligent, relatable comedy will make you laugh and smile until your face hurts, and he is a genuine joy to witness live. With thoughtful writing behind his faultless show Lost Singaporean, Fadzri makes delivering comedy look easy. We know it’s not, but Fadzri’s gifts are undeniable, especially when he’s on stage alone, fearlessly dishing out one gem of a tale after another, all while making it feel like he’s intimately sharing these personal stories only with you.
On stage, Fadzri Rashid is in his element. In fact, there’s no place he’d rather be, he’s practically glowing.
Fadzri Rashid performed a full season at the 2025 Melbourne Comedy Festival at Melbourne Town Hall – Paul’s Room until April 20th. Unfortunately, the festival is now over and I caught Fadzri Rashid’s final Melbourne show of Lost Singaporean for this year. Hopefully, he will return next year, however, Fadzri Rashid is currently touring Australia as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow.
