Who is Freya Skye?
Admittedly, apart from listening to some songs of Freya Skye’s off Spotify, I hadn’t a damn clue. I just liked her sound, her clear diction, plus the raw and honest lyrics in her music. So, you can imagine my surprise when her sold-out Melbourne concert at Margaret Court Arena had fans dressed in blue with star-shaped accessories, all lined up way past the venue and towards the footbridge that takes you back to the city!
The lines outside for merchandise as well, almost made a full circle around Melbourne Olympic Park’s courtyard. Once inside, the indoor merch lines still were stretched around the corner. Melbourne patrons collectively keen and curious to witness Freya Skye’s Melbourne debut.
So, when Freya finally took to the Melbourne stage for her 2026 Stars Align Tour, her biggest ever headline show, I was surprised to see that singer-songwriter from England was equally surprised to see us.
With no studio album and the tour in promotion of her Stardust EP, released earlier this year in February, a sold-out Australian tour is nothing short of amazing. And then you see her live and you just get it. Freya Skye’s star power is undeniable.
Still new on the scene with a 13-song setlist, Freya still delivered with soaring vocals, a charming smile and a presence on stage that was undeniable. Accompanied with a band of three consisting of David Cola on drums, Anna Bettendorf on bass and keys, and Donnie Laudicina on guitar, Freya made sure patrons knew that she could play too, pulling out two gorgeous guitars decorated with sparkly stars at certain points of the show. Despite the short setlist, Freya successfully delivered an excellent, passionate thoroughly satisfying performance.
Taking to the stage, which was illuminated with flashing stars, Freya ignited the energy in the room from the get-go with her song ‘Can’t Fake It’. Not a single moment of her show lulled, everyone was either up on their feet or dancing in her seat, or swaying along to the slower numbers, but the entire Margaret Court Arena venue was filled with an overwhelming joy that you could only ever soak up and feel at a live music show.
Highlights of the evening were when Melbourne fans stunned Freya for knowing every word of her unreleased song ‘Bad Taste’, when everyone started doing the hand movements to ‘Petty’ during the chorus and then proceeded to keenly read fan signs and hilariously play the game Paper Scissors Rock with a fan down on the floor. By the time she sung ‘Silent Treatment’ with Melbourne patrons’ voices combining to make up a beautiful unrehearsed chorus, Freya Skye’s magic was undeniable. My favourite song of the evening, however, was ‘Who I Thought Knew’, with exquisite lyrics that is sung with an unguarded sincerity and emotional depth, well beyond her years.
Visually, the concert looked stunning with the illuminated stars (or diamonds) flashing, sometimes in sync with the songs. Freya also had a gorgeous blue dress with stars, shining on stage quite literally.
With the Melbourne concert at Margaret Court Arena being her biggest ever headline show, it’s hard to believe that Freya Skye is *only* 16 years old. Yet already, she has better stage craft than others who have been in the game for longer. The best part after leaving this special concert was seeing the parents of some tiny fans being excited about what they had just witnessed more than their kids!
Mark my words! This talented Brit songstress will soon be selling out stadiums one day. Remember her name, look forward to her eventual debut studio album, and embrace the beginning of what is certain to be a long and brilliant career, because Freya Skye is a bona fide superstar.
Freya Skye is currently touring as part of her Stars Align Tour 2026. She performed in Melbourne at Margaret Court Arena on June 11th. She concluded the Australia and New Zealand leg on Sunday the 14th of June at Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Auckland.
