Laughter, memes and viral TikTok sounds, set the tone for what could possibly be a dinner date shared amongst couples, family and friends. With an ambience that was inviting and calm, everyone in attendance at Grentperez’s Melbourne show could agree that the evening promised nothing short of delight.
Australian-born Filipino Grant Perez, known professionally as Grentperez, opened his Backflips in a Restaurant Tour in Melbourne with high energy and charm. Taking the stage as the ‘restaurant manager’, he introduced to the Melbourne audience the chef, Timi, and the bartender, Ichi, before welcoming everyone to G’s Bar and Grill. Setting the tone for a fun evening filled with warmth, humour and smooth melodies.
With energy radiating across the venue, Grentperez held the audience from the first note. Every strum, beat and lyric drew the audience deeper into his world of fuzziness. From ‘Nice to Meet You’ to ‘Why I Love You’ and ‘Dandelion’, the Forum Melbourne patrons swayed, bounced and sang along to Grentperez’s infectious presence. His setlist carried the warmth of a romantic evening and the concert in turn felt like a gathering of good company over good food and drinks. As the concert went on, Grentperez kept the momentum alive with crowd favourites including ‘Clementine’, ‘2DK’ and ‘Movie Scene’.
The mood was set, the stage was ready, and all that was missing were our special guests. Lucky Melbourne fans Danielle, celebrating both her birthday and anniversary with her partner Ethan, were chosen from the crowd. What at first seemed like a fainting incident from the back of the venue, quickly turned into a surprise reveal, but also a huge props to the fast response time from security that effortlessly carried both Danielle and Ethan over the barricade. The couple, the evening’s dinner guests, were congratulated and then serenaded on stage by Grentperez and Timi on the violin, turning ‘Yours To Keep’ into an unforgettable and sweet intimate moment of pure romance. Our two lucky fans also had the best seats in the house for his next track ‘12065’, remaining on stage.
Full of banter, laughter and effortless chemistry between the on-stage trio, the theme of G’s Bar and Grill kept in perfect sync with the Melbourne crowd. Grentperez, Timi and Ichi played together and joked effortlessly while captivating the Melbourne audience with every note. Lifting the energy with ‘Ego’, ‘Cherry Wine’, and one of Grentperez’s newer tracks ‘Fuzzy Feeling’, the Forum Melbourne as filled with connection and joy, a lively mix blended with the great music, providing a night of bliss for everyone lucky enough to be in the same room.
Simplicity at its best and despite a sold-out Forum Melbourne, Grentperez held everyone in attendance with his charm, wit and voice. His playful backdrop, filled with subtle one-liners and hidden gems, turned the wait into a light-hearted easter egg hunt, with TikTok viral songs that had everyone in lighter spirits.
Returning to the Forum for his sold-out Backflips in a Restaurant Tour, Grentperez brought as much laughter as he did in captivating his Melbournian crowd. Full of pride as an artist and to his heritage, Grantperez delivered a show that was one that was not to be missed.
On stage, Grantperez’s talents, heartfelt performances, charm, genuine connection with his Melbourne fans shone throughout the night tenfold and left his Melbourne audience beaming long after the final song had ended.
Presented by Live Nation Australia, on Tuesday November 4th, Grentperez continues his tour in Brisbane at The Tivoli on November 9th before concluding his Australian tour in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre on November 12th.
