When Jacky Ng was asked to submit the title of his Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, he just called it ‘Singaporean Lah-Ughs’, and so, Jacky advised a disclaimer to his Melbourne audience at the beginning of the night. it’s just a title and the majority of the jokes aren’t all about being Singaporean.
Surprisingly, the audience were very forgiving. Shockingly, not a single patron hailed from Singapore that night! This didn’t matter as the joke still landed, regardless of where you’re from.
Throughout the evening, Jacky Ng provided an entertaining stand-up comedy show filled with juicy and ridiculous stories. We learn about national grief, Jacky’s love for his country, his love for life, police working from home, and his beloved, hot and kick-ass fiancée.
Jacky is welcoming, appearing approachable with a raw energy that makes him seem authentic and incredibly likable. To the point that if you’ve seen him before, you’ll notice some of the same jokes from his previous show in Melbourne last year. But you’ll forgive him for it, as he’s still a growing comedian that’s fine-tuning his craft.
For a comedian, confidence, belief and encouragement go a long way, so I’ll say this: You can do a full show! You don’t need a support act. So, here’s hoping that this funny Singaporean returns to Melbourne with fresh new work in the not-too-distant future, with a show that’s all him.
