Jurassic World: The Exhibition – Experience Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

For anyone who missed out on the incredible exhibition at the Melbourne Museum back in 2016, don’t worry – this experience is even more exciting and well worth it!

Our journey at Jurassic World: The Exhibition commences upon departure, so make sure you’re not late. We boarded the ferry on time and headed over to Jurassic World. On board, we had a briefing via video about the park and what could be anticipated on the island. From the screen graphics of dinosaurs to the waves outside the windows, it truly felt like we were on a boat in transit to the iconic dinosaur park.

Upon docking, we were welcomed by a ranger and Barbara the Brachiosaurus. All attendees could get up close and personal with Barbara (within the safety of her enclosure). Make sure to check out the binoculars available around her before travelling in deeper into the island!

As we journeyed further into the exhibition, we arrived at the Hammond Creative Lab. What started as a simple display exhibit in 2016 has since been transformed into a fully interactive, fun-filled experience. Once you step inside the lab, you will find yourself welcomed by amber fossils displayed on the walls, each one offering fascinating insights on our dino pals. You can even explore and analyse the available dinosaur eggs, witness baby dinos in their incubators, and yes, if you are brave enough, you can even touch a replica of dinosaur faeces! Don’t worry though, hygiene measures are in place to make sure it’s all safe and clean.

But without a doubt, the highlight of the Hammond Creative Lab is the chance to meet and pet a baby dinosaur, under the watchful eyes of its rangers. It’s an unforgettable experience that’s bound to be a highlight for anyone who wishes to interact with these friendly creatures.

Moving further and into the next area, get ready to unleash your inner palaeontologist! This section of the experience allows you to dig into the past and uncover hidden fossils, just like the scientists who first unearthed the secrets of the dinosaurs. It’s a great opportunity to feel like a real-life explorer. And of course, don’t miss the chance to meet Baby Bumpy. For those who are unfamiliar with this Ankylosaurus, she is the main dinosaurs protagonist in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous which is an animated TV series available for streaming.

Once the doors opened into the next space which were dimly lit, we were welcomed by park rangers into an encounter with some of the most iconic dino predators – Velociraptors: Echo, Delta and Charlie. For our safety, they were all locked up and barricaded, just don’t get too close though as their eyes are watching our every move! The atmosphere was thrilling here which was a great way to move us all into the next experience – meeting Blue.

As we step into the raptor enclosure, we are greeted by another ranger who gave us some cautions to follow before we’re greeted by none other than Blue! Not afraid of an audience, Blue is able to roam freely in the open space available to her behind the safety of the high barricades. As she roamed, eyeing the spectators from one end to the other, her ranger was able to give us some insightful information on Blue and of course, reward her with a treat. Despite her proximity, don’t forget that safety is key. Blue may be used to humans, but we are still in her territory! The high barricades are there for a reason, so be sure to keep your hands and feet safely outside of them.

After an encounter with Blue, the rangers will then guide us into the next space. In this area we will meet the Ankylosaurus, Stella. Remember Baby Bumpy? Well Stella is what Bumpy will look like once she is fully grown! With her tough armour and impressive size, Stella is a sight to behold and a great shot for the cameras. Snap up some photos with Stella whilst waiting for your photo op inside the Gyrosphere. Being able to sit inside the Gyrosphere was an experience in itself as well, as it was originally a display only attraction in Melbourne, 2016.

As we draw closer to the end of our experience, we are led into the ‘Plant Room’ – an experience that is unique every time, depending on the ranger guiding the tour. We had Ranger Will who made the experience of meeting the Carnotaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex filled with laughter and fun. This really made the encounter with our two predators feel safer and humorous rather than injecting fear like the flashing red alarm bells. Remember, you can always be a sacrifice for your friends to escape! This was a perfect way to end the experience as the final space led us towards the souvenirs.

If you snapped up a photo before boarding the ferry in front of the green screen, this is where you can collect your fantastic keepsake from Jurassic World: The Exhibition. Otherwise, here you can find many different options to commemorate your experience. From the guidebook, to magnets, plush dinos and other memorabilia from the exhibition, there’s something to take home for everyone.

Just a friendly reminder for families attending with young children, the restrooms are only at the start before you go in, so please make sure our little ones are bladder free to enjoy their time inside Jurassic World: The Exhibition.

Jurassic World: The Exhibition is a wonderful immersive experience that will captivate any dinosaur fan. Make sure to book in a date and get ready to meet Blue and all her other neighbourhood dino friends. This is an experience you won’t want to miss!

Jurassic World: The Exhibition is now on in Melbourne at the Fever Exhibition Experience Centre until December 20th, 2024.
