Katy Perry may have left months ago, after touring Australia for the entirety of June to continue her most ambitious tour yet – The Lifetimes Tour. But that doesn’t mean she can’t be a multi-tasking queen! On Friday November 7th at 11am Melbourne time, Katy Perry released her new single, ‘bandaids’.
The song is a reflective and bitter-sweet power ballad that tells of heartache, commitment, disappointment, and acknowledgement for her journey thus far. Now, it’s no secret that Katy has moved on from a past relationship, however, it’s been a while since we’ve witnessed Katy’s songwriting this raw and incredibly honest. She’s always worn her heart on her sleeve, but love has always been the best inspiration when it comes to making music. After all, everyone can relate to a heartbreak song!
To accompany this incredible new song by the accomplished pop songstress, Katy Perry’s music video is Final Destination movie style, with Perry appearing careless and having multiple near misses with death. Ever had the trauma after seeing the films when driving behind a truck that’s carrying tree logs? Yeah, a similar truck is in the music video too!
For Katy Perry fans, there are lot of hidden meanings to unpack, both visually in the music video and lyrically. There’s even a reference to Katy Perry’s song ‘Never Really Over’ in the vocally epic and emotional bridge where Katy sings, “If I had to do it all over again, I would still do it all over again. The love that we made was worth it in the end”, and I would be lying if I said this part didn’t make me cry.
Not only is ‘bandaids’ my new favourite Katy Perry song, but it’s arguably the best single Katy Perry has released since 2019’s ‘Never Really Over’. ‘bandaids’ is currently #1. in Australia on the iTunes charts. There’s not an ounce of anger in ‘bandaids’. Instead, what we have here is a fierce, unapologetic, raw, brave and powerful ballad, where Katy Perry reminds the world that she’s always been about ‘no regrets, just love.’
‘bandaids’ is now available digitally on streaming services everywhere. Although there’s currently no physical copy of the single yet, here’s hoping for a 7-inch vinyl release. We’ll see.
