Kong: Skull Island – Film Review

When you watch a film, when you commit to a movie, you want to care for the main characters. There were some big names in Kong: Skull Island; Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Riley, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson and regarding their characters I didn’t care who lived or died.

We all know the story of King Kong; People travel to an island, people get stranded on island, people discover big gorilla on island, people are scared of big gorilla on island. But that’s where the similarities end. There is no beautiful damsel-in-distress actress character, no movie being filmed but instead an expedition of scientists and soldiers wanting to claim and study the uncharted island. Did the changes help the script at all? Possibly, it gave leeway for some very good action sequences. But despite the good special effects and action scenes, this movie failed to enchant me. I was bored at many parts of the film and couldn’t wait for the movie to be over.

You know a movie isn’t that great when you like the after credit scenes more than the feature presentation. And even then, the after credit scenes aren’t really anything to write home about. I mean, if you like gorillas and are already a fan of King Kong, then you’ll like this. Otherwise, I’d suggest to watch some classic Godzilla instead, but that’s just me.

The soundtrack to this film was amazing. Being that we were there in Hawaii too made it cool. Love this move. But you know me, it’s that bad it’s amazing, right?
