Talented, beloved and charming Icelandic singer-songwriter, Laufey returned to Melbourne to bring Lauvers a world filled with romance, nostalgia and magic. As devoted fans entered Rod Laver Arena dressed for the theme, the magic had already begun before the curtains opened. Inspired by fairytales, alongside personal interpretations and handmade crowns, the Melbourne venue buzzed with creativity and anticipation.
Opening with ‘Clockwork’, Laufey welcomed Melbourne into her A Matter of Time Tour, titled after her third studio album of the same name. The Melbourne stage carried a fairytale essence with theatrical details and soft visuals, setting the tone before moving into ‘Lover Girl’, where Melbourne fans clapped and sang along to the beat. Act I continued with ‘Silver Lining’, creating a sea of lights followed by ‘Bored’ and ‘Too Little, Too Late’. Laufey’s vocals filled the Melbourne arena as patrons sang every lyric alongside her.
During Act II, Laufey returned with a costume change and welcomed everyone into her “Little Jazz Club”. She thanked fans for showing up and shared how Melbourne felt like coming home as an Icelander, as the Melbourne cold was familiar. Her easy personality and playful banter made the arena feel warm and personal. Laufey performed a cover of ‘Old Devil Moon’ from Frank Sinatra before reciting a poem written for her Melbourne Day One fans as an introduction to ‘Valentine’.
Act III followed with ‘Carousel’, ‘Forget-Me-Not’ and ‘Cuckoo Ballet (Interlude)’. Before continuing, Laufey crowned Melbourne Lauver, Dex, as the best dressed of the night. Inspired by her album artwork, Dex wore a detailed costume featuring a hand-sewn rabbit amongst other details. Laufey fans sure are super talented!
With another dazzling outfit change, Act IV featured the song ‘Mr Eclectic’, where Laufey performed a live string duet with her twin sister, Junia Lin Jonsdottir. The night continued with ‘Goddess’, ‘Tough Luck’, ‘Snow White’ and ‘From the Start’. Laufey then moved swiftly into Act V with ‘Sabotage’.
Closing the night with her final act, Laufey returned for two nostalgic acoustic performances. The fan requested ‘Let You Break My Heart Again’ from her coffee and pie dressed Lauvers, who were arguably the second best dressed of the evening. For one last emotional singalong, Laufey performed ‘Letter to My 13 Year Old Self’. Ending the night, Laufey gave her final message of patience, self-acceptance and gratitude for all the goodness in life, leaving fans with words that felt as personal as her music.
Laufey’s impact on music reaches beyond what she produces. She has made jazz and classical music feel current, personal, refreshing, new and accessible to younger audiences. Through themes of self-acceptance, expression and confidence, Laufey has lovingly created a space where the arts feel more welcoming and deeply connect to a new generation.
Laufey’s theatrical approach transforms each show into more than just a concert. It becomes a performance where audiences immerse themselves in the world that she has created and warmly welcomed them into. Her storytelling is amplified through visuals, staging and a narrative that remains connected to the themes of her music. Supported by a live band, string quartet and performers, Laufey’s orchestral production strengthened each song while creating vivid scenes around romance, heartbreak and self-discovery.
Returning to Melbourne, Laufey transformed Rod Laver Arena into a dreamlike world where jazz, classical music and modern pop happily existed side by side. A Matter of Time solidified why Laufey has become one of the leading voices that’s bringing jazz-inspired pop to a new generation.
Melbourne fans did not simply attend a concert. They experienced a night that welcomed both music and theatre lovers into the same space for us to co-exist beautifully. The first Melbourne concert allowed devoted Lauvers to willing step into Laufey’s world and experience her storytelling beyond the recordings.
