It ain’t no 90’s Mania without the Vengaboys!
The Vengabus was in full throttle, leaving nothing to disappoint as it cruised through hit after hit. The crowd was swept up in pure nostalgia, singing along to every familiar tune and reliving the magic of the 90’s. From the first beat to the last, it was a nonstop celebration, with everyone riding the high-energy rhythm of the night. Returning to Australia for a flash to the past, were the foursome Kim Sasabone, Denise Post-Van Rijseijk, Donny Latupeirissa and Robin Pors.
Kicking off this epic night was a stellar lineup of local and international icons which set the stage for an unforgettable night. Mark Pellegrini, Alex Party, and DJ SASH! took the decks, spinning a mix of timeless hits. From the groovy tunes of the 70’s to the energetic anthems of the 80’s, and of course, unforgettable 90’s jams, the crowd was treated to a non-stop party that had everyone dancing through the decades.
Normally, I’d expect the big hits to make their grand appearance toward the end of the night, when devoted fans gather all their energy for one final chorus to belt out. But to my surprise, ‘Boom Boom Boom’ exploded into the night right from the start. The Melbourne crowd didn’t wait until the finale; instead, they dove straight into one of the most spontaneous and extravagant karaoke sessions I had ever witnessed. Everyone was singing, dancing, and living for every single word – an impromptu yet unforgettable celebration that set the tone for the entire evening.
The Vengaboys transformed the night into a full-blown disco party, taking the Melbourne audience on a journey like no other, unleashing hit after hit, starting with the infectious energy of ‘Up & Down’, where the crowd didn’t just sing along but with Donny’s clear instructions, they fully participated to all the dance moves, riding the waves of the beat. From there, it was a nonstop ride through ‘Ho Ho Vengaboys!’, ‘Rocket to Uranus’, and ‘Shalala Lala’, with each song sending the Melbourne crowd into an even greater frenzy. It was a 90’s heaven come to life, with everyone living their best nostalgia-filled moments, dancing and singing to every iconic tune. The vibe was pure magic and a celebration of the best of that unforgettable era.
It wouldn’t had been a true 90’s Mania without Europe’s #1 party act cranking up the nostalgia with some epic remixes of the era’s greatest hits. Vengaboys knew exactly how to keep the energy going, taking their audience on a wild memory lane trip like no other, seamlessly blending genres and melodies from Latin beats and rock anthems to some of the most unforgettable tracks from the 90’s. From the infectious rhythms of ‘The Ketchup Song’ and ‘Macarena’ to the timeless rock anthem ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ the crowd was in full singalong mode.
To especially show their love for their Aussie fans, the night wouldn’t had been complete without a nod to our iconic Men at Work’s ‘Down Under’. Every remix was a party but also a great reminder of why the 90s was the decade for unforgettable dancefloor moments.
The finale consisted of a spectacular blockbuster moment. The Vengaboys brought the house down with a surprising and playful twist of Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’, reenacting the iconic Titanic scene where Rose and Jack share their unforgettable “I’m Flying” moment. The crowd loved every second of it, but just when you thought the nostalgia trip was over, they kicked things into hyperdrive.
With a burst of energy, the Vengaboys launched into more hits, leaving the Melbourne audience elated, dancing and screaming for more. By the time the last notes faded, it was clear: the party was far from over in their hearts, and Melbourne fans were still buzzing long after the concert had concluded. Here’s hoping they return to Australia in the not too distant future.
